Workplace Accident Investigations That Save Lives: What to Investigate, Why, and How

Accident Investigations Webinar Recording

Thousands of accidents occur throughout the United States every day. The failure of people, equipment, supplies, or surroundings to behave or react as expected causes most of them. Accident investigations determine how and why these failures occur. By using the information gained through an investigation, a similar, or perhaps more disastrous, accident may be prevented. It is important to conduct accident investigations with prevention in mind.

An effective safety and health program includes conducting effective accident investigations and the credibility of the findings from the investigations. Knowing what to investigate, why to investigate, and how to investigate an accident or incident will ensure that credibility of both the findings for preventing similar incidents from occurring again and that of your management team to your employees that you do value a safe work environment and safe work practices.

You and your colleagues will learn:

  • The ‘steps’ of how an accident occurs
  • How the human factor evolves into an unplanned event
  • Effective strategies for conducting investigations
  • What types of accidents and incidents should be investigated
  • How an accident report can help you or hurt you—and how to do it right
